Fit and Healthy

Monday, July 17, 2006

I ran 100 metres, then jogged back 100 metres... TEN times. I didn't realise how hard it was gonna be cos i have jogged and walked before... BUT running and jogging is hard work.

When I was done, I felt like I had run for an hour. I was sweating buckets!!!

Apparently, Raising and Lowering your heart rate continuously is good for increasing fitness and weight loss... so I will be doing this once a week and jogging 2ce a week.

My dear blog pals and readers... I urge you to includes some form of exercise in your life. It's good for your heart, etc.... LOL!!!

Seriously though, it feels good to be fit and (kinda) healthy!

I can be FITTER

Saturday, July 15, 2006

I know it was a week ago, but the 5k race seems like a long time ago! I need to register for another race ASAP...
It's quite warm this morning... I went for a 30 minute jog today and thought I was gonna melt... I am working on increasing my pace, so it made things even worse! I had my pedometer attached to my waistband and it said I did only 2.5 miles!!! How crap is that?!?!? I ran really fast for the first miles and then I got tired. I need to start normally, get into the jogging and then increase my pace.... DUHHH!!!
So me and my weekend jogging mate are going to Run 100 metres, Jog 100 metres (10 times) on Sunday evening..... interesting.

Tomorrow :-)

Can't believe a few months ago I couldn't run for more than a minute...

I will probably post some pics of the day and let you know how it goes.

Have a nice weekend :-)

If anyone would like to sponsor me (all proceeds go to Cancer Research UK), let me know and I will email you my fundraising page.

Still going...

Tuesday, June 27, 2006

My race is in less than 2 weeks.

I am proud to say that while I was on holiday, I went jogging twice... only for 30 minutes each time cos it was H-O-T!!!

I went jogging yesterday and I think I ran around 7km, that is more than my race... so things are looking good so far :-)

Short and Simple

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

I have complained about the weather here and now it's been H-O-T in London oh... really HOT!

I went jogging at 9pm last night thinking it'll be okay cos the sun's gone down...

I was WRONG!!!! After 35/40 minutes of jogging, I thought I was going to melt!!! It was still very warm outside although it was the evening!!!

Just found out the Half Marathon in September is FULL so I am currently looking for a 10k to Half Marathon Run around that time...

My race is on the 8th of July... very close and I feel ready cos I ran round a track 10 times yesterday and I only stopped cos I was boiling and had no water with me....

I'm still running!!!

I have been so busy - reading other blogs, among other things - I actually wrote up this LONG post and then next thing, I mistakenly went back on the page and the whole post was GONE!!!

I was so frustrated so I just gave up!

I have beautiful news (for me sha)... I am getting so fit. I can run for over an hour now!!! On Monday, I over-ran (if there's such a word!!) I planned to do 50 minutes and found out I'd done more than 20 minutes on top of that... How about that?!?!?

To be honest, the first 15-20 minutes are the worst for me, then it's almost a breeze cos my breathing is stable and all. I have been jogging on hard ground and I have started to feel a little pain in my calves so I have to start running on grass b4 I hurt myself.

Anyway, just wanted to let y'all know that I am still going!!!!

FIT FIT BUKI!!!!

A Fitter Buki

Thursday, May 18, 2006

So today was the last day of Week 3, I feel like I am definitely getting fit but there is still a long way to go. I am so proud of myself and I think I will be able to keep this up...

I really cannot wait for when I will be able to run for a WHOLE HOUR without stopping, that's my first major milestone!!!!

Week 4 will be as follows:

  • Day 1 Rest
  • Day 2 Run 8 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times
  • Day 3 Rest
  • Day 4 Run 12 mins, walk 2 mins. Do twice
  • Day 5 Rest
  • Day 6 Rest
  • Day 7 Run 8 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times

Week Five

  • Day 1 Rest
  • Day 2 Run 9 mins, walk 1 min. Do 3 times
  • Day 3 Rest
  • Day 4 Run 14 mins, walk 2 mins. Do twice
  • Day 5 Rest
  • Day 6 Rest
  • Day 7 Run 8 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times

Week Six

  • Day 1 Rest
  • Day 2 Run 15 mins, walk 1 min. Do twice
  • Day 3 Rest
  • Day 4 Run 8 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times
  • Day 5 Rest
  • Day 6 Rest
  • Day 7 From this point onwards, you should be able to jog for 20 - 30 minutes

I'll put up some routines (e.g. fartleks) you can try once or twice a week to increase your stamina and strength so you can run harder and for longer. Hope this helps :-)

Week 2: Day 7 - Run 5 mins, walk 3 mins. Do 3 times

Thursday, May 11, 2006

So it's the end of my second week and I've only slacked once! :-) I am really proud of myself.

Now, running for 5 minutes is probably EASY for some of y'all BUT it is a big deal to me... I am about to jog right now so maybe, tomorrow I will say how it went.

Week Three is as Follows:

  • Day 2 Run 7 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times

Week 2: Day 1 - Rest

Friday, May 05, 2006

I feel bad, I was so tired from work last night that I didn't have time to jog!!!

Today, I am still feeling the strains of lack of sleep.

This is the start of my second week of training towards fitness.

Week 2
  • Day 1 Rest
  • Day 2 Run 3 mins, walk 3 mins. Do 4 times
  • Day 3 Rest
  • Day 4 Run 3 mins, walk 3 mins.Do 4 times
  • Day 5 Rest
  • Day 6 Rest
  • Day 7 Run 5 mins, walk 3 mins. Do 3 times

So, first thing tomorrow morning, I am back on schedule.

Day 6 - Rest

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

I'll have to admit, I was too lazy and stressed out to run on Day 4 (Monday) so I ran yesterday. I am so happy I can rest today cos I ran in the evening yesterday, ate some boiled plantain and stew and C-R-A-S-H-E-D!!!

I was so tired...

It looks so straightforward - running for 2 minutes and walking for 4. Well it 's not for someone as unfit as myself. This has even made me more determined to stick to this plan.

Some of my workmates are trying to convince me to make my July run public... i.e. tell everyone at work so that I can raise more money and get a t-shirt with my company logo and all... Oh gosh... I don't want them making a big deal out of this! I don't want my workmates at the Regent's Park cheering me on!!!

Day 3 - Rest

Sunday, April 30, 2006

Thank God for this!!! I started my jogging yesterday and I though it was going to be easy... I was WRONG.

I woke up this morning and my thighs were H-U-R-T-I-N-G, I thought to myself, "Was I riding a man all night during a sex marathon?" I WISH!!! Then I remembered Saturday morning and the beginning of my road to fitness.

For you guys out there who are mighty fit, please think about your unfit days... I know my 1st week looks so easy but it SO ISN'T, for me sha!!!

I saw a couple of women at the salon who said they were going to be running the Race For Life as well...

If you are interested, visit RaceForLife...

So tomorrow is my next day of jogging... Good Luck Buki, Good Luck!!!!

Day 1 - Rest

Friday, April 28, 2006

TMinx suggested 2ce that I should post my fundraising page... I will do that in due time.

I mentioned that I was going to do this to my friends and a friend of mine was so interested that she signed up right away! That means I might have a training partner... woohoo!!!

For my first week, cos I am so unfit, it hurts, I've been advised to do this:

Week One
Day 1 Rest
Day 2 Run 1 min, walk 1 min. Do 10 times
Day 3 Rest
Day 4 Run 2 mins, walk 4 mins. Do 5 times
Day 5 Rest
Day 6 Rest
Day 7 Run 2 mins, walk 4 mins. Do 5 times

So... Friday (today) is my Day 1. So I should have a new post on saturday or Sunday :-)

Thanks for your support guys!!!!

It Begins...
