New 5k PB

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

I ran a 5k (Resolution 5k) on the 19th of April and finished in exactly 28 minutes... I could have finished quicker but I was tired from a 2 hour fitness workshop on the previous day.

So - yay me! :-) If you know me, you'd know my next target is 27 minutes ;-)

I've registered for the Royal Parks Half-Marathon, it takes place later in the year (11th of October).

These days, I workout Mondays to Fridays and usually have my weekends off, during the weeks I have to workout on Saturday or Sunday, I take one or 2 days off between Monday and Friday. I will try to blog here more often than I've been for the last year...

My First EVER Half Marathon :-)

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Yay!!!! :-) I ran 13.1 miles without walking even for a second! I'm sooooo proud of myself.

This was a HARD race, there were hills everywhere! I must admit that by the 9 mile mark, my legs were aching so bad, my breathing was fine but my legs were so tired, I just about managed to keep running. But when I got to the 1 mile left-to-run mark, I picked up my pace and was smiling till the end... I was so happy!

I expected to finish in 2hrs 30 minutes BUT I finished in just over 2hrs 20minutes!!!

The screenshot below shows what time on the official clock I crossed the finish line but my chip time shows my actual time because - there were thousands of us taking part and I was no where near the front of the queue so I actually crossed the start line almost 2 minutes after the gun went off (which is when my chip started recording my time). So my official time is 2hrs 20mins 41secs... GO ME!!!!!! LOL!

My legs..... I definitely am not ready for a WHOLE marathon yet! I know my legs would have been less fatigued if I didn't run for 2 hours on Monday, do 45 minutes of spinning and 15 minutes of training on Thursday and 40 minutes of running on Friday... I have to do a few more 10ks, at least one more half marathon before I even think about doing a marathon... watch this space.

Anyway - I am soooooo happy and proud of myself :-)

London 10k... Personal Best!!!!!!!! :-)

Monday, May 26, 2008

My watch said 1hr 1min 47secs but I just checked the website for the official time :-)
My new personal best is.......

1 hour 1 minute 42 seconds!!!!!

(Compared to my old PB - 1hour 5minutes 54 seconds) And my position was 3984th out of a possible 10,500(?? Not sure, could be less) runners and the 1, 308th female to finish :-) ... I am so proud of myself! And to think I wasn't feeling confident because of the horrid weather(rainy and windy) and I didn't train as much as I'd have liked to.... :-)
It's good to see that my second half of the race was a little quicker than the 1st half :-) I better not run that kinda time for the 5k in July ;-).. less than 30 minutes definitely :-)

I should be running tomorrow morning... just checked my official time for the race and it was: 01:06:14.0. I already decided to take off 20 seconds from my time cos it took me 20 seconds to get to the actual start because I was far back on the starting queue.

I think I can say my new PB is: 1hour 5minutes 54 seconds. Our previous PB was: 1 hour 6 minutes 31 seconds
.

I am pleased but not pleased LOL! All I have to do is run harder during the next 10k race on the 4th of Augsust.

How's everyone...? Hope you are doing good....

Race Talk

I should be going for my interval training within a couple of hours... then my body will have a 24 hour break before the race...

My 10k race is tomorrow - I have to beat 1 hour 6minutes tomorrow!!! I don't care how! You'll know by tomorrow if I succeed... WHEN I succeed! Vickii isn't taking part in this race but I am hoping she'll be there to cheer me on.

We(Vickii, Miss E, CG(I hope I get to meet her) and I) have the Race For Life 5k on the 21st of July, 2 weeks away and Vickii and I HAVE to beat 29 minutes 8 seconds. We really have no other choice!

Have a nice weekend and I'll be back tomorrow to share my result.

Sue Ryder Care - Beat the Baton 5k race

Monday, May 28, 2007

The race is over!!! And we finished in less than 30 minutes!!! :-) :-) :-)

Thank God for Vickii o... Just over halfway into the race, I was ready to stop. I have been packing my stuff to move out of my flat, I went to bed at 4am and woke up at 8.30. Then I had to move my stuff out of the flat for the next couple of hours - Not the best preparation for a race! My legs felt heavy all of a sudden... It didn't help that the weather was kinda crap - rain and wind and freezing temps!

I kept on saying I was tired and I was going to stop... Vickii kept on telling me we were almost done,I am sure I slowed us down a bit. Close to the end, I held on to Vickii's hand and kept up with her that way... Thank you so much Vickii!!!

Our(Vickii and Buki) time: 29minutes 08seconds!!!! 2 minutes quicker than our best :-)

I saw my Mummy after the race and told her I ran for her... she's looking so good... :-)

P.S. I was interviewed by a TV channel because the charity read about my motivation to take part in the race - my Mummy. I might be on TV!!!
Our pictures were taken so many times - I was pinning Vickii's number on the back of her shirt and a photographer came up to me and asked me to smile while I was doing it, Vickii and I were walking and some other photographer asked is to smile for a picture, then when we were warming up, another one took our picture! We are mini celebs o :-)

RACES...

Tuesday, May 08, 2007

The races are coming up... Anyone who is really interested in running and taking good care of yourself (diet, running gear, training, etc), try to get the Running for Women book on my side bar (Vickii's find).

Vickii is taking part in all of the races with me except the 10k on the 7th of July, she says she'll come and support me, I hope she does :-) My friend Miss E is taking part in both 5ks as well and one Regents Park 10k race.

My best 10k time is 1 hour 6 minutes 31 seconds and my best 5k time is 31 minutes 27 seconds.

We are trying to set ourselves realistic goals so... for the 28th May 5k, we want to finish in less than 30 minutes, Vickii said 29 minutes 59 seconds will be good enough! LOL!!! Seriously, I think it can be done. I'll try to do 2 more interval trainings before the week.

For the 10k in July, I would like my time to be as close to one hour as possible... I know it can and will happen. I'll be running this race on my own so I'll look around for someone whose pace is similar to mine and keep up with him/her(most likely her, LOL!).

The next 10k... has to be less than an hour. IT HAS TO BE!

Race schedule so far
28th May - 5k

8th July - 10k
21st July - 5k
4th August - 10k
1st September - 10k
29th September - Half Marathon

I am going to do a home workout tomorrow morning...

Nike Run London 2006

Sunday, October 08, 2006

I just had a LONG nap, I wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow!

I sent a text to my friend just now, saying I did it in 1 MINUTE 8 SECONDS... LOL! Because I am Flash Gordon Right?

I got a text with my Time, it was 1HOUR 8MINUTES 14SECONDS, my friend and running mate did it in 1HOUR 8MINUTES 57SECONDS.

Our friends were trying to take a picture of me BUT apparently, I 'flew' past them cos it was the last 200m to the finish... LOL!!! I always do a sprint finish oh... when I see the finish, I just reach for the little bit of adrenaline left and RUN!!!

I just have to say Well Done to my Friend Miss Y cos she had a cold and she finished in good time.

I have to admit I was far far away from my target... my initial target was 1hour.... then as I started training, my aim was to finish as close to 50minutes as possible.

My friend who came to watch made me feel better by saying I LOST SOME TIME because of manouvering around people that were walking or running slower than was... the max amount of time I will take off because of all that will be 3minutes... I will not lie to myself.

Let me give a brief rundown of the race...

Over 7 thousand of us took part in the 12.45 race... my friend and I were probably in the middle of the long queue to start so we did not start running until almost 4/5 minutes into the race.... and even when we started, we had to get into the race for about another 500m... it was packed...

1km - It felt like it took ages to get here... Let me confess, my heart was pounding so fast... I was so nervous and excited... I didn't expect that!!! Because of my rapid heart rate, I was breathing erratically (LOL!!!)

2km - I was just getting into the race
3km-4km - starting to enjoy the race... feeling like a runner as I overtook people BUT then we got to an unexpected slope and I ran too fast there so I got tired for a while. I slowed down my pace.
5-8km - Caught my breath....Picked up and kept a steady Pace
8-9km - Checked my watch and saw I had missed out on 50 minutes :-(
9km - I picked up my pace a little bit
9.7km - The sprinting began ALL THE WAY TO THE FINISH!!!!

I'll be honest with you, I was disappointed that I did not do it in less than an hour BUT there are other races out there innit?

Thank you so much for your support, I REALLY REALLY REALLY appreciate it. I honestly thought about the support I have gotten so far from blogville as I was running today and that really pushed me to make sure I DID NOT STOP!

Have a blessed week.

I'll be signing up for another race soon :-)
