Training Update...

Monday, September 14, 2009

I'm so happy, I ran from home to the gym last Friday (It felt like FOREVER).

I learned 2 things:
1. Caledonian Road is almost 2 miles long
2. My run along Green Lanes is 2 miles

This morning, I ran from home to a station on the same tube line as the gym - it took 51 minutes, I'd say it was a little over 5 miles then I went for my usual class @ the gym.
Plan for the rest of the week is very similar to last week...

29 days to go....

I'll be taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 11th of October.

Can I run a half marathon tomorrow? Yes, probably... I think so ;-)
BUT
Can I run a half marathon in less than 2 hours 10 minutes tomorrow? NOPE!

Yikes!!!! 10 minute miles consistently is the safest guaranty for 2hrs 10min, I better get my act together!

I haven't seriously trained (for my race) this time round..
BUT I've been going to the gym an average of 5 times a week and I know I am stronger and fitter. My endurance is most probably much improved BUT I can't take the risk of not training specifically for my race. So... I kinda started this week:

Monday - Ran from home to Camden Town tube station (5.5 miles), then did a 1 hour class @ the gym
Tuesday: Usual class
Wed: Usual evening class
Thurs: 20 minute tempo or interval run on the treadmill before my class @ the gym
Fri: Run from home to the gym... 7.7 miles (good luck me!)

Next week will be the same but on Friday, I might cycle 10k (at the gym) after my 7.7 mile run. Same thing as week after. Then I'll take it easy with the long runs and hopefully be race ready on the 11th of October.

Week 1 of 4

2 interval runs this week

It's easy to get lazy and forget to do these interval runs but because I plan to document my progress here, I HAVE to do them....

Monday - Planned to get to the gym before 7 today, I unfortunately got in at 7.10, didn't get on the treadmill till 7.15ish! I was on it for 20 minutes, 4 minute warm up and 16 minutes of interval training (1 minute very light jog @ 8km/hr and 1 minute run @ 12km/hr). Got into my 7.30 class almost 10 minutes late and dripping with sweat, just how I like it ;-) LOL!!!

No interval run on Tuesday (I'll probably do some other form of cardio tomorrow), but I think I'll do it on Wednesday before an outdoor class I usually go to on Wednesdays.

Wednesday -

Interval Training

Wednesday, July 08, 2009

I hardly weigh myself anymore.... why? Because when I increased the intensity of my workouts over 6 months ago, I weighed myself and almost fainted - I had put on 4kg BUT lost inches so now I try to judge my progress by how my clothes fit.

Anyway.... right now I am on a mission :-)

I won't really change my current routine, all I've decided to add is: 2 interval training sessions/week for the next 4 weeks. I'll do 1 minute intervals on the treadmill or cross trainer for 30 minutes per session. I'll most likely do the Monday sessions before a 1hour class at 7.30 and the Wednesday one during, before or after my long run.

13, 15 July
20, 22 July
27, 29 July
3, 5 Aug

I'll try to come back at the end of each week to record my progress. I know I work harder when I set targets for myself so it's on :)

Hey...

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I'll be taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 11th of October, I'm going to start training for it in July.

I still work out 5 times a week...
Some people ask me, "Do you work out everyday?"
I respond, "No, just Mondays to Fridays or sometimes I skip one of those days and go on Saturdays"

Okay... sometimes I go Mon-Fri and Saturdays (maybe once every 4-6 weeks) BUT I don't go everyday, LOL. I know it sounds ridiculous but I love it! I am learning to listen to my body, if I feel I'm overdoing it, I take a break. It is hard when you are really into your exercise but you have to take a break when your body demands it.

I do a mix of cardio, weights/resistance, endurance... and I have made really good friends at the gym and we work out together often... So, you see, I can't get bored :-)

I had a 30 minute boxing session yesterday (follwed by a 1hr outdoor class) and although I woke up aching this morning, I LOVED it... looks like I've found yet another love in the Fitness world - Boxing :-)

I don't think I am as skinny as this picture on my left sidebar, a couple of my friends
saw it and said I looked "sick, too skinny". I might not be as slim but I think I'm starting to love the shape I'm in...
